Frequently Asked Questions
How will GLCA teachers teach?
Most of the teaching will be in a traditional format lecture style classroom, round table discussion format or online curriculum for specialty courses with tutoring options.
How will teachers connect with students daily / weekly?
On a daily basis, teachers will instruct students and be present after instruction time to answer questions. This will help students achieve success.
Each month, students will meet with an on-site counselor to address emotional growth outside of the educational scope.
Additionally students will be required to meet with one of our four academic advisors bi-monthly.
What is Blended Learning?
Blended learning is the combination of face-to-face instruction, technology, and data to increase personalization, engagement, and mastery of essential skills. A blended learning classroom is a student-centered learning environment where students have some control over the pace, time, path, and place of their learning.
In short, blended learning integrates online content and instruction with traditional classroom teaching and experiences.
What is the school time?
Campus is open 8am - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 8am - 1pm on Fridays. Some classes are also offered during evening hours of 5pm - 8pm. Students are required to have a full academic schedule and check in to their classes on time. Friday afternoons are open for students and parents to book time with teachers for meetings or assistance in any classwork.
What options will I have for following my student’s progress?
Parents will have a login to our Parent Portal where they can see student grades and communicate directly with teachers. Monthly progress reports which include behavior comments and dorm life grades are issued the last Monday of the month and must be signed by parents and returned to the office within 48 hours. This helps us make sure you are aware of exactly how your child is doing in all aspects of school life.
What is the uniform policy?
All students will be required to wear polos or collared shirts but can also purchase t-shirts, hoodies and polos with Gateway logos. These must be purchased through the school prior to the first day of school and can be ordered throughout the school year as well. The first Friday of every month is Business Friday. Students are required to dress in professional business attire (i.e. dress slacks or skirt, button down shirt, ties for boys). The remaining Fridays are casual Fridays which means students do not have to wear collared shirts, however, pj pants, sweatpants, short shorts or short skirts, and other non-dress code items are not allowed even on Casual Fridays. Refer to the school handbook for complete details.
Can my child graduate early?
Yes. Once all requirements have been met, students can graduate.
